Westchase Technology Center: Your Thoughts on Co-Working

the new building, originally uploaded by poplabsinc.

Pop Labs moved into our own building back in December of 2008. Since then we’ve made our office space a fun environment for our staff. As we expand our own facilities we look to occupy the available space outside of Pop Labs.

Over the last few months we’ve been in exciting conversations with a local coffee shop, Coffee Groundz. If you’re not familiar with their success story, you should definitely take the time to read up on them. Our idea is use our available space (up to 10,000 sq. ft. contiguous space) for a new Coffee Groundz location plus a Co-Working space!

Our goal is have a venue for events, promotional galleries for local artists and musicians and of course provide the outstanding service that comes with Coffee Groundz! In addition to having Coffee Groundz in the Westchase District, we also want to provide a co-working space for our tech-community work & play.

We have a large and very loyal community here in Houston and we’d like to encourage you to share your thoughts on these ideas and suggest any you may have. Thanks! And we look forward to hearing from you.

Originallay pitched Gene on being involved with our entrepreneur broadcast company. He passed at the time, but something to consider. We are moving fast. Sal you should join in on our calls EBC Advisory Network 100 (by invitation only).

We’ll be providing space for those interested in co-working or if an entity is interested in their own space, we’re available to lease the space and offer on-site management, contractors and plug-play capabilities.

I think that the idea of combining Coffeegroundz + coworking is terrific. It’s fair to say that I know a little bit about both concepts, as well as the general area (I helped open http://www.katydock.com) and I think that a Westchase expansion makes logical sense. The trick isn’t the space itself – it’s the people and the vibe that they bring. I’ve been to the new Poplabs building and there is ample space for both a coffee shop and coworking+events space so the only issue is making it a ‘destination’ place for coworkers, freelancers and startup companies. Please let me know if there is anything that I could do to help with the effort.

    Marc,
Thanks for the feedback and I’d be more then happy to get your pointers and advice on the subject. I remember having this very discussion not to long ago at CGz with Refresh Houston. I’m really excited about this possibility and I hope the community is too!
