If you’ve ever heard about social media, you’ve probably heard people say it has revolutionized the way people interact, live and do business. A movie has just been made about it, people are writing books about it and it is becoming a part of our lives whether we accept it or not.

For many, it is more convenient to get online and see what your friends are up to instead of calling each person individually. Wait…there’s more to a cell phone than just texting, games, and music? Can you imagine keeping up with the hundreds of people on your “friends list” with a phone call every week? What about even once a month? Your social life would eat you alive. It already does that for some people as it is. Farmville – yeah, I said it.

Let’s take it to another level – what if you were a business trying to directly reach out to your thousands of customers on a continuous basis?

Right then, I made a decision – I vowed I would never allow myself to get caught up amongst individuals who represented mediocrity.

My plan was to always be better today than I was yesterday.

In order to dramatically increase my knowledge, I knew I must only learn from successful individuals – nothing less.

“Manage your environment. Learn from the best. ALWAYS GO FIRST CLASS!”

The vast majority of people I associate with in the business world, both past present, all tend to possess the same philosophy.

Money is not ultimately what motivates us – Winning is!

A favorite read of mine ‘Psycho-Cybernetics’ by Maxwell Maltz MD, conveys this message unequivocally;

”What you succeed in is not as important as the feeling of success which attended it”

Ding! Personally, the money has always been an afterthought, an added bonus. The gravy on top of the accomplishment of success! It’s that winning feeling that contributes to the driving force required in life’s challenges. And oh boy – it’s worth the battle! (more…)

The following post will be be a double hitter. Rather then two separate posts on the same event, we’ve commissioned two of our team leads (Jillian & Lori) who attended last night’s Refresh Houston meeting with Matt Mullenweg at our offices.

A Pre-Holiday Treat

Santa came early this year, in the form of our good friend Matt Mullenweg (@photomatt), founder of blogging platform Wordpress and Chief BBQ Taste Tester of Automattic (just kidding… sort of).

Matt, armed with one of Pop Labs’ famous margaritas, delivered an informative and entertaining Q&A for Refresh Houston. Having seen Matt last year at his HTC presentation, I thought that maybe this year’s presentation/gab fest was going to be similar. Talk about the future of open source. Talk about online liberties.
